The event, presented by journalists Noemí de Miguel and Mónica Martínez, was attended by more than 20 Iberdrola Ambassadors, leading figures in women’s sport such as Alexia Putellas, María Pérez, Ana Peleteiro, Carolina Marín, Teresa Perales, Inés Bergua, Irene Paredes, Elena Congost, Paula Leitón, Laura Delgado and Susana Rodríguez. Various figures from the world of high-level competition and communication also took part in the event, including Ona Carbonell, Paloma del Río and Manu Carreño, members of the awards’ honorary jury.

The executive chairman of Iberdrola praised the momentum of women’s sport in Spain in recent years, which in his opinion is not only about talent, but also heart and soul.

“You athletes are the guiding light for all women,” he said in his emotional speech.

In addition, a group of elite Spanish athletes from different disciplines presented him with a plaque in gratitude for the company’s contribution to sport.

The six winning projects

This year, the Iberdrola Supera Awards received 1,300 entries. Since the first edition in 2020, the company has received more than 5,300 entries. Each category has a prize fund of €50,000, making a total of €300,000, to promote and expand the objectives of the winning initiatives. 

This year’s winning projects are:

• Supera Base: the Paiporta Rhythmic and Aesthetic Gymnastics Club (Valencia) for bringing together families, coaches and 70 students around this discipline. After losing its facilities due to the DANA, it will now be able to refurbish a warehouse to continue its social and educational work.
• Supera Competición: Dream Team Kukullaga (Bizkaia, Basque Country) for promoting women’s beach handball. This section of the Balonmano Kukullaga club promotes the incorporation of its athletes into high-level sport. One of them is already a world youth champion.
• Overcomes Inclusion: Club Deportivo Elemental Calipso (Madrid and Castile-La Mancha) for bringing artistic swimming to people with hearing disabilities. It seeks to promote sign language training, organise inclusive events and help other clubs and federations.
• Overcoming Social Barriers: CEIP Lope de Vega (León, Castile and León) for transforming school playgrounds with the practice of colpbol. This cooperative sport promotes equality and coexistence among girls, many of whom are of Roma ethnicity or immigrants, and reduces conflicts.
• Supera Difusión: the University of Zaragoza, through the Blanca Foundation Chair for Athlete Support, has been recognised for a national project to raise awareness of the importance of mental health in competitive sports. The initiative integrates analysis, training and campaigns to turn athletes into role models for emotional self-care.
• Supera Impulso Rural: Club de Mar Castropol (Asturias) for promoting women’s rowing and encouraging traditional rowing among women. It seeks to participate in other national leagues as the only boat from the Principality to give visibility to this discipline in a traditionally male-dominated environment.

The deliberations were carried out by an honorary jury made up of figures from the worlds of sport and media, including Vicente del Bosque, Sandra Sánchez, Iker Casillas, Lydia Valentín, Sonsoles Ónega and Susanna Griso, as well as some of Iberdrola’s ambassadors.

Iberdrola, a pioneer in its commitment to sport 

Iberdrola is a leader in promoting women’s sport in Spain, an area in which it paved the way a decade ago. It currently supports 35 national federations and , lends its name to more than 100 competitions and supports more than 160, benefiting more than 800,000 federated athletes. In addition, through the Iberdrola Ambassadors programme, it brings together 35 elite competitors to promote social recognition of women in different sports disciplines.
